{April 28, 2007}   Rumbling Hearts — Episode 9

Nothing like a little Rumbling Hearts with a sugary doughnut first thing in the morning…Not that it’s first thing in the morning right now. But I am just getting around to writing this post about what I watched this morning.

This episode felt like it had a lot less ‘action’ (not that the series has any action period) than the previous one, and I ended up pretty much abandonning my note take in order to better concentrated on the emotions involved in the episode.

Things are moving very quickly for all of those involved. Takayuki is becoming more and more distant to Mitsuki–to the point of being cruel. At the same time, he’s becoming closer and closer to Haruka, even tracking down the book she asked for, the same one he bought for her the day of the accident (although he had to replace it because it was torn up.) The book scene was particularly interesting as Mayu was involved in him obtaining the book, and it was very interesting to see her act a bit more subdued and also showing actual concern for what was going on.

Mitsuki is falling apart, and while Ishida-san keeps trying to help her (you find out in this episode that she’s almost certainly going through a divorce), Mitsuki keeps pushing her away. Another little tidbit that is made clear is that Shinji liked Mitsuki in high school, and clearly still likes her now.

Akane is still completely unreadable. While Mitsuki’s misery seems to be as much about the loss of their friendship circle as it is betraying Haruka and the potential of losing Takayuki too, Akane is a mystery. She’s been cruel to both Mitsuki and Takayuki, but in this episode, after seeing that Takayuki was visiting Haruka again she says, “This…This is good.” What does she mean by this? Is she happy that he’s spending time with Haruka? Happy about some sort of planning working out? Is she plotting for him, or against him? What is going through her mind. I really can’t wait to find out.

The end of the episode is almost a “cliffhanger.” Thus far, while the curtains have been open in Haruka’s room, one has been moved in such a way that it’s blocked her reflection (or at least it seemed that way to me.) The very last thing shown in this episode was Haruka looking out the window and then pausing as she catches a glimpse of her reflection–and her incredibly long hair. It’s about to hit the fan, I think.

Oh, and my husband gave me the perfect name for the Ayu-Mayu moment at the end of this episode. “Your moment of zen” ala The Daily Show with Jon Stewart. The description was particularly apt for this episodes little SD moment, that’s for sure.
