Fighting Spirit–Episode 3
I really can’t say what was so different about this episode, nor why my opinion changed, but suddenly I find myself enjoying the series. Weird.

Fighting Spirit–Episode 2
Okay, so Fighting Spirit hasn’t pulled any shounen sports anime cliche just yet. There’s the test to get the respect of the respected person. Here, it is 1 week to figure out how to catch 10 leaves doing jabs. As per tradition, Ippo spends every spare moment practicing, finally figuring out the trick just in the nick of time.
Then of course, just the respect of the immediate superior is not enough, and he must face his next task against a kid his own age that is vastly superior. Which isn’t finished in this episode. However, at least they started it in this episode. I was terrified that they were going to stretch out the leaf-catching for a whole episode, which only works if you plan on tossing in a supportive, non-boxing friend (girl persuasion helps.) But they skipped that cliche for the moment.
Thus far, I’m not seeing what’s so fantastic about the series, but some of the best take time to really rev up. It’s a shame about the art though. It really is unattractive.

Fighting Spirit–First Look
It’s been a month, but I’m finally watching some anime again. It’s been even longer since I rode my exercise bike to anime. Given the dreary weather, the poor condition of my DDR pad, and a recently purchased sports anime, I figured it was time to switch back to the bike. But enough about my bizarre anime-exercise habits, let’s move on to Fighting Spirit, a.k.a. Hajime no Ippo.
