Midori Days

While it has a lot of bad, fan pandering parts, I simply cannot deny that this series has a lot of heart.

Midori Days–Episode 11

February 28, 2009 at 6:53 pm (Anime, Episode Discussions, Midori Days)

As anticipated, this episode was pretty lackluster.  Kota gets kinapped, gets saved, learns secret, passes out.  And if the show stays true to form, shan’t remember what he’s seen once he wakes up.

But hey, maybe Midori will stop being such a selfish brat.

On the plus side, we got some Ayase theater going on.  Yay, Takako.  You make this series bearable.

Di Gi Charat, or, Why, SynchPoint, Why?

February 26, 2009 at 4:27 pm (Anime, Reviews)

This week, I had the unfortunate opportunity to check out Di Gi Charat.  I was under the impression it was a short, kooky little show, perhaps falling somwhere between Strawberry Marshmallow and Galaxy Angel.  Random but funny, cute but not totally cloying.

I was wrong.  Oh how wrong I was.  It was random, but humor was lacking.  It wasn’t cute (beyond the character design for Rabi~en~Rose), it was fun, and it certainly wasn’t enjoyable to watch.  Of the 16 four minute long episodes, I liked just one.  That would be episode 15, “Party Time,” which was a music video.  The seiyuu were pretty good singers, at least.

There really is nothing redeemable in the entire series.  Looking into a bit more, I found that it was a series of ads for a store in Akibahara.  So that leads to one burning question: Why would SynchPoint even bother licensing them?  Seriously, what is the point?  They aren’t enjoyable, and they’re commercials.  Why would they put them on a DVD?  It’s little wonder they’ve never made anything of themselves in the licensing world, if this is what they’ve spent their money on.  I can only hope they got it cheap.

What surprises me most is that it’s not that badly rated at ANN.  I can’t see what anyone could find appealing in this one.  I mean, in other shows that I’ve liked, I could at least chalk it up to fanboyism and the like.  But this…can’t even fathom it.

Needless to say, I don’t recommend this one to anyone.  At all.

Being home sick from work leaves a lot of time for anime watching.  And I’m so glad to be getting back into this series again, I’ve missed it.
